Reading Hockey Club ACHD awareness and fundraising
Adam contacted us recently about an advertising opportunity at the hockey club where he plays. Born in Hong Kong with Transposition of the Great Arteries, Adam was taken away from his parents immediately. Adam told us: “On day 1 I had minor surgery to put a hole in my heart, followed by an arterial switch at 10 days old. It was 2 weeks before my parents were able to hold me for the first time. I have my scar down the middle of my chest as a reminder each day of what I’ve achieved in my life!”
As a child growing up, Adam was told he would never be able to play competitive sport to a high level. However, as time went on, he found a love for hockey as a sport and a way to keep fit and motivated! After an immense amount of hard work and dedication, at 26 he is playing and captaining Reading Hockey Club 1st XI, playing alongside and against Olympians, commonwealth athletes and other internationals in the England Hockey Premier League.
Adam was keen to promote Somerville Heart Foundation via the club and spoke to the chairman and manager. We are so grateful to the Club for adding the Somerville Heart Foundation logo to the team strip for this year and displaying banners around the pitch. The 1st XI currently play in the England Hockey Premier League, with all the matches filmed and photographed, reaching a large audience around the country. The Hockey club also has a footfall of over 200,000 people throughout the year.
