A tribute to Marc de Leval
We are saddened to hear of the loss of Professor Marc de Leval and would like to pay tribute to his great achievements in the field of congenital cardiac care. Professor de Leval passed away on 26th June 2022.
Cardiothoracic Surgeon Professor de Leval made an invaluable contribution to the congenital medical world. He performed the first heart transplant at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 1988, and initiated their Heart and Lung transplantation programme for children.
Speaking about Professor de Leval in Humanity & Humility (Marc de Leval, 2020) Professor Jane Somerville noted that “His incredible legacy is that so many of his patients are long term survivors. Infants and children on whom he operated and enabled to reach adult life to lead near normal lives.”
